Street Cocktail LP

The Street Cocktail LP is my first mixtape that I have always postponed for release since 2012. This was due to indecisiveness on the launch of the mixtape coupled with a tight schedule of organizing events and trying to keep my 9 to 5. Then there is always the question of whether it was worth it; whether the world is ready for it – for me. Every artist goes through this, I’m told.

The LP contains different projects by different artists and collabos. Some of the best artists I have worked with include MC Spook (Eldoret), Chrisco (Eldoret), Logical Truth (Kisumu), Emox (Eldoret), Maneezy (Eldoret), Mr. Dry (Webuye), Pluto (Webuye) and many others.

I have also worked with different producers including Mutuka (Vitex Records), Braxo (Symphony Media), Camistare (Walawi Records), Filosofa (Accuracy Records). Some projects are self-produced with the assistance of MC Spook.

Some of the beats have been sampled by Harry Ambreezo, 9th Wonder, Braxo and others were bought (downloaded) online.

The project has a range of genres I was experimenting with through the years. There is the Blues, Hiphop, House/Techno, Spoken Word and Narrative (Prose) Poetry. Hence, the Street Cocktail. There is literally everything for everyone – from party goers, to street goons, to the intellectuals!

To boot, there is an ebook of my second anthology of poems dubbed, “Monks and Cigars and Other Poems”. The anthology boasts of award-winning poems such as “A Memo to Nemo” (KOLA: African Street Writer’s Awards, Lagos 2014), shortlisted works of satire such as “A Kenyan Love Poem” (StoryMoja Hay Festival, Nairobi 2014) among others. Some have appeared in performance during the monthly One Night Stand Poetry event in Eldoret which I co-ordinate with other poets in the region.

The sale of the LP debuted on 14th February, 2015 during One Night Stand Poetry event at Hotel Winstar, Eldoret. Several copies were sold and others still do both in soft and hard copies.

The mixtape goes for Kshs. 200 ($ 2.3). The hard copy can be picked from 2Geez records Eldoret or be ordered on +254 702 021 656 or e-mail wudz97@gmail.com. Soft copies will be e-mailed. For parcel delivery, extra charges for mailing will be levied upon request.

T-shirts are also available at an affordable price, either plain with a “One Night Stand” logo or customized. T-shirts labelled “Wudz: Poetry. Hiphop. Philosophy” will go for Kshs. 800 ($ 9.2) with a FREE copy of the Street Cocktail LP!

I would like to thank the Universe for the gift of my voice, my writing and my persistence. My love also goes to my believers, everybody who has ever attended my performances, readers of my blogs and poems, those who have bought and still buying the LP, MC Spook for the studio time and the bad jokes (I owe you one, son), my family for the support, Oyatsi and the whole EPA/ONS family for the growth, the miracle called the Internet, the gift of life, every hiphop head and poet and free thinker, workmates and myself for believing in me.

Deinah Khakasa, your spiritual guidance and meditation tapes are my mantra. Namaste.

This is just the beginning. Great things to come.

Let’s do this!

Love & Light.
